Abstract

Abstract: The study was carried out to investigate Syrphidae (Diptera)species in Balcalılocation in Adana province, Turkey in 2011 - 2012. Syrphidae species were sampled by useof sweep- net in wheat, alfalfa, stone and pome fruits and weeds. In the study, a total of 11Syrphidae species representing 7 aphidophagous and 4 saprophagous species wereidentified. Most common species were: Sphaerophoria scripta (L., 1758), Episyrphusbalteatus (De Geer, 1776) and Eupeodes corollae (Fabricious, 1805). Adults of S. scripta were detected on different cultured plant species including wheat, alfalfa, apple, plum,peach and weedy plant species [stinking chamomile ( Anthemis arvensis) and wild carrot( Pastinaca sativa)] during February- July, while adults of E. balteatus were collected fromwheat, alfalfa, apple and plum and weeds from February to May but only on alfalfa duringSeptember- October. First adult of E. corollae was collected from the alfalfa wheat, alfalfa,nectarine and weed species (stinking chamomile) in February- May and only on alfalfa inSeptember- December period. Syritta pipiens (L., 1758) and Eristalis tenax ( L., 1758) assaprofagous species were detected mostly on the weeds
