Hepatotoxicity with mad honey

Abstract

Mad honey is specifc to Blacksea Region in our country includes grayanotoxin that causes poisoning. Poisoningwith that honey ofen goes with bradicardia and hypotansion, at the same tme animal experiments point to hepa- toxicite of it. In this text, we intend to call atenton to mad honey, that it could be diagnosed with clinical suspicious- ness and careful history in the non-fxable (idiopathic) toxic hepatc events by surving 43 year-old hepatoxic patentwith sweatng and gastrointestnal problems afer eatng mad honey.

Ülkemizde Karadeniz Bölgesi’ne özgü olan deli bal, içerdiği grayanotoksin ile zehirlenmelere neden olmaktadır. Delibala bağlı intoksikasyon kendisini sıklıkla bradikardi ve hipotansiyon ile göstermekle birlikte hayvan deneyleri he- patotoksisiteye de dikkat çekmektedir. Bu yazıda, tanısı klinik şüphecilik ve dikkatli anamnezin sayesinde konulabi- len, Karadeniz bölgesinden getrilen balı yeme sonrası terleme ve gastrointestnal şikayetler ile başvuran bir hepa- totoksisite olgusu sunuldu; nedeni saptanamayan toksik hepatt olgularında deli bal’a dikkatn çekilmesi amaçlandı.
