Abstract
There are some beliefs about the occurence of earthquakes in nearly every Turkish geography. The major belief is that “the world is on the horns of a yellow bull and when the bull shakes its head earthquakes ocur”. In the Turkish and world mythology there is belief that the world is on the top a fish. Especially, this belief is prevalent in the societies making a living on fishing. On the fish’s moving, it is thought that an earthquake has happened. In this study, we have depicted the color yellow and “soil” and made evaluations by determining the society’s viewpoints in the mythological texts and folk poetry which are about how earthquakes are happening.
