Abstract

In this paper, the studies on music of Muslim Turks, who lived during the X-XIIIcenturies will be briefly discussed. The most important names of those, who workedin the field of musicology in the East during that period were al-Fā rā bī, İbn Sīnā ,Nas īr al-D īn al-Tūs ī, Safī al-Dīn al-Urmawī, Qutb al-Dīn al-Shir ā z ī. By examiningthe works of these scientist, one can understand, that not only in mathematics,astronomy, medicine and other branches of science, but also in the field of music theMuslim Turks made a big contribution to science and civilization. Unfortunately,generally this fact has been ignored by historians of science. There is an importantpoint to emphasize here. It can be asked, why al-Shir ā z ī was included into thisresearch while the subject heading proposes to study only the Turks. The reason isthe following: In the field of musicology al-Shir ā z ī substantially followed the Turkish music theoretician al-Urmawī in addition the most important part ofShirā z ī s life was spent in Anatolia. It is known that he met Mevlanā in Konya,served in various positions in Kayseri and Malatya. For this reason we saw fit to include him under this heading.

Bu çalış mada, X-XIII. yüzyıllar arasında ya ş amış Müslüman Türklerin müzik bilimiile ilgili çalış maları, kısa de ğerlendirmelerle ele alınacaktır. Bu yüzyıllar arasındaDoğuda müzik bilimi alanında çalış malar yapmış isimlerden en önemlileri, Fârâbî,İ bn Sînâ, Nasîruddîn-i Tûsî, Safiyyüddîn-i Urmevî, Kutbuddîn-i Şîrâzîdir. Bubilginlerin yazdıkları incelendiğinde Müslüman Türklerin bilim ve medeniyetekatkıları sadece matematik, astronomi, tıp ve diğer bilim dallarında de ğil müzikalanında da olduğu görülecektir. Bu durum maalesef umumiyetle bilim tarihçileritarafından da göz ardı edilmiş tir. Burada vurgulamam gereken bir husus var. Konuba ş lığında Türklere yer verece ğimi yazdığım halde metnime neden Şirâzîyi dahilettiğim sorulabilir. Sebep ş udur: Şirâzî müzik bilimi alanında büyük ölçüde Türkmüzik adamı ve nazariyecisi Urmevîyi takip ettiği gibi, ömrünün bir bölümünü deAnadoluda geçirmiş tir. Konyada Mevlana ile görüş müş , Kayseride Malatyadaçe ş itli görevlerde bulunmuş tur. Bu sebeple onu da bu baş lık altına almayı uygungördüm.
