Abstract
Liberal Republican Party, second opposition party founded after the Progressive Republican Party, was founded by Ali Fethi Okyar, the ambassador to Paris, upon the request of Atatürk. Through this new party under the presidency of Fethi Okyar who believed in democracy and adopted free market economy, it was aimed to find solutions to the problems of the country. At the meantime, finding support from the West could have been expected in solving the economic problems. The foundation of the Lieberal Republican Party seems also to be intended to improve the relations with the West, not only to remove disadvantages of one-party system and bring democracy.
