The council of nicaea in terms of iconographic perspective

Abstract

As from the early days of Christianity, dissidences have started to come in view amongst Christians particularly on whether or not being in conformity with Jewish traditions, but in general on variety of subjects such as the Concept of God and nature of the Prophet Jesus. And Councils were convened for the purpose of smoothing out such matters. One of these Councils which was convened in Turkey just as the other first six Councils is the II. Council Of Nicaea. In the point that this Council featured iconographically, it differed from the other Councils. And accordingly, giving particular importance to this difference, we have discussed in this article the analysis of the II. Council of Nicaea in terms of iconography. Concordantly, iconography is defined in this article and in general, the first seven Councils and some Councils that have importance in the history of Christianity are also discussed briefly following the general information and information on icons. And then information about the II. Council of Nicaea is presented. And an overall evaluation is made in the conclusion of this study.

Özet

Hıristiyanlığın ilk dönemlerinden itibaren Hıristiyanlar arasında Yahudi adetlerine uyup uymama konusu başta olmak üzere Tanrı anlayışı ve Hz. İsa’nın tabiatı gibi çeşitli konularda görüş ayrılıkları ortaya çıkmaya başlamıştır. Bu görüş ayrılıklarını gidermek amacıyla Konsiller toplanmıştır. Bu konsillerden bir tanesi de diğer ilk altı konsil gibi Türkiye’de gerçekleştirilmiş olan II. İznik Konsili’dir. II. İznik Konsili ikonografik bir özellik taşıması bakımından diğer Konsillerden farklılık göstermektedir. Biz de bu farklılığı ön plânda tutarak makalemizde II. İznik Konsili’nin ikonografik açıdan tahlilini ele aldık. Bu bağlamda makalemizde ikonanın tanımı yapılmış ve ikonalar ile genel bilgilerin ardından genel olarak kısaca ilk yedi konsil ve Hıristiyan tarihinde önem arzeden bazı konsiller de ele alınmıştır. Daha sonra II. İznik Konsili hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Çalışmamızın Sonuç kısmında ise genel bir değerlendirme yapılmıştır.
