Abstract

After the Turkish Independence War, the fire that broke out on 13 September 1922 in Smyrna, one of the cosmopolitan sand one of the cities where the business life was buoyant, lasted for days and inflicted a deep wound in the characteristic texture of the city. Whilst it is not known exactly who initiated the fire, especially foreign investigators allege that the fire was brought out by the Turks and the Turkish army. There are many publications that show the Turks as responsible for the fire although there is strong evidence that the fire was exhumed by the Armenians. The aim of this study is both to remind the fire of Smyrna once more and to show whether a relation between the fire and the Turks.
