Evaluation of albendazole on humoral and cellular immune response

Abstract
In this study, humoral and cellular immune response of albendazole, is a benzimidazole anthelmentic wasevaluated. Humoral immune response was studied on mice (Swiss albino); for this aim four groups were done (control, 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg albendazole treating), each having eight mice. Humoral immuneresponse was evaluated as primer and secondar immune response. In addition, differences were also determined at final period on the lymphocytes, monocytes, leucocytes and polymorphonuclear leucocytes. The results were shown that high doses of albendazole stimulated of humoral immune response.Cellular immune response was studied on guineapigs. These are also splitted into four groups. The results indicated that albendazole was suppressed to cellular immune response, so this evaluation was done with the purified protein derivative test, 21 day later. Thus, differences on the lymphocytes, monocytes, leucocytes and polymorphonuclear leucocytes levels were determined in this period.
Özet
Bu çalışmada benzimidazol grubu bir madde olan albendazol’un hümoral ve hücresel immun yanıt üzerine olan etkileri değerlendirildi. Hümoral immun yanıt farelerde (Swiss albino) çalışıldı, bu amaçla her grupta sekiz fare bulunan dört grup (kontrol, 10 mg/kg, 20 mg/kg ve 40 mg/kg albendazol verilen) oluşturuldu. Hümoral immun yanıt, primer ve sekonder yanıt şeklinde değerlendirildi. Ayrıca son dönemde kan tablosundaki değişiklikler de (lökosit, polimorf nükleer lökositler (PMNL), lenfosit ve monositler) saptandı. Elde edilen sonuçlar, albendazol’un hümoral immun yanıtı, doz artışına bağlı olarak uyardığını gösterdi.Hücresel immun yanıt, kobaylarda çalışıldı. Kobaylar da, hümoral yanıtta olduğu gibi dört gruba ayrıldı. Yirmi bir günlük bir uygulama sonunda, PPD (purified protein derivative) testi ile yapılan değerlendirmede, albendazol’un artan dozlarının hücresel immun yanıtı baskıladığı ortaya çıktı. Bu dönemde de yine, lökosit, PMNL, lenfosit ve monosit oranları da belirlendi.
