Two different bacillus calmetté-guerin in the treatment of superficial bladder tumors

Abstract

Intravesical Bacillus Calmetté- Guerin (BCG) instillation in the treatment of superficial bladder cancer has been used since 1976. In this study, two different BCG species with two different doses of colony forming unit. (CPU)'was used in 40 patients with superficial bladder cancer after transurethral resec-tion of the tumor. The patients were randomized in two groups. Connaught BCG 81 mg (BCG ImmucystR CPU 6x106) and Onco-Tice BCG 50 mg (Organon Technica CPU 5x10s) were intravesically given to 25 patients and 15 patients, respectively. The patients were followed-up for 3 to 24 months (mean 13±2.2 months). Efficacy and side effects were compared between two groups. After Connaught BCG instilla-tion, 6 patients (24%) showed progression in tumor grade while only one patient (6.7%) had tumor pro-gression after Onco-Tice BCG instillation. Adverse effects were found significantly less in patients using CFU SxIO8. In conclusion, CFUSxIO8 was found more effective and tolerable in the treatment of super-ficial -bladder tumor.

Özet

Yüzeyel mesane tümörleri tedavisinde intravezikal Bacillus Calmetté-Guerin (BCG) tedavisi 1976 yılından beri uygulanmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, farkh oranlarda canlı basil içeren (CFU) iki farklı BCG susu, transüretral tümör rezeksiyonu sonrası yüzeyel mesane tümörü tanısı alan 40 hastaya uygulandı. Hastalar rastgele iki gruba ayrıldı. Birinci grupta yer alan 25 hastaya 6 hafta süre ile 81 mg Connaught BCG (ImmucystK CPU OxIO6) susu uygulandı. Diğer 15 hastaya ise aynı süre ile 50 mg Onco-Tice BCG (Organon Technica CFU SxIO8) susu mesane içine verildi. Hastalar 3 ile 24 ay arasında (ortalama 13±2.2 ay) izlendiler. Etkinlik ve yan etkiler iki grup arasında karşılaştırıldı. Onco-Tice BCG susu uygu-lanan hastalardan sadece l 'inde (%6.7) nüks ve tümör derecesinde ilerleme izlenirken, Connaught BCG susu uygulanan 6 hastada (%24) tümör derecesinde ilerleme gözlendi. Yan etkiler CFUSxIO8 basil içeren BCG susu ile daha azdı. Sonuç olarak 5XlO8 basil içeren BCG susu mesane tümörü tedavisinde : etkin ve tolère edilebilir olarak bulundu.
