Abstract
Forty-one patients with the diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma, treated with conservative surgery and radiotherapy were analysed in terms of treatment results and prognostic factors, retrospectively. The most common histopathological subtypes were malignant fibrous histiocytoma (28%), leiomyosarcoma (19%) and liposarcoma (14%). Trunk (49%) and extremity (49%) were the most common locations with only one case with head and neck location. The patients were given total dose of 50-72 Gy (median 60 Gy) radiotherapy postoperatively, with teletherapy machines (Cobalt- 60 or 6-10 MV lineer accelerator). Local control and overall survival rates at 4 years were 48% and 66%, respectively. When analysed with multivariate analysis, tumor site and tumor size were found to be statistically significant prognostic factors influencing local control and overall survival, respectively.
