Counsellors’ Expectations From School Administrators and Teachers

Abstract

It is necessary to determine the expectations of the counselors in an up-to-date and comprehensive way in order the counselling services at schools can be conducted effectively. The purpose of the present study is to identify the expectations of the counsellors from the school administrators and teachers in the process of execution of the Guidance and Psychological Counselling services. Qualitative research method was used for attaining the purpose of the study. The study group was composed of 48 counsellors in service at primary schools, secondary schools, and high schools in Çorum province. Scale sampling, a purposive sampling method, was used in identifying the participants. The research data was collected by semi-structured interview forms developed by the researchers. Accordingly collected data was analyzed by descriptive analysis, a qualitative analysis method. Counsellors stated that the administrators provided them with physical conditions required for the guidance services, and that the administrators delegated different jobs other than the guidance services. Counsellors generally expected the administrators to support the ongoing activities, to be informed about the field, and to change their misperceptions regarding the field. The most important expectation of the counsellors from the other teachers was that the teachers would collaborate with the guidance service and change their misperception regarding the field. The Guidance Services Regulation should be revised and the tasks of the counsellors should be clarified. Efforts should be shown with an aim to remove the open ended, ambiguous expressions.

Özet

Okullarda psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetlerinin etkin bir şekilde yürütülebilmesi için buhizmetleri yürüten psikolojik danışmanların beklentilerinin güncel ve kapsamlı bir şekildebelirlenmesine ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, rehberlik ve psikolojik danışmahizmetlerinin yürütülmesi sürecinde psikolojik danışmanların okul yöneticileri ve öğretmenlerdenbeklentilerini saptamaktır. Çalışmanın amacına ulaşmak için nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır.Çalışma grubunu Çorum ilinde ilkokul, ortaokul ve liselerde görev yapan 48 psikolojik danışmanoluşturmaktadır. Katılımcıların belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örneklemekullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeformları ile toplanmıştır ve nitel analiz yöntemi olan betimsel analiz ile çözümlenmiştir. Analizsonuçlarına göre; psikolojik danışmanlar, rehberlik hizmetlerinin gerektirdiği fiziki şartlarınyöneticiler tarafından sağlandığını, yöneticilerin rehberlik hizmetleri dışında farklı iş taleplerindebulunduklarını belirtmişlerdir. Psikolojik danışmanlar yöneticilerden genel olarak yapılan çalışmalaradestek olmalarını, alan hakkında bilgi sahibi olmalarını ve meslekle ilgili yanlış algılarınıdeğiştirmelerini beklemektedirler. Psikolojik danışmanların diğer öğretmenlerden en önemlibeklentileri ise öğretmenlerin rehberlik servisiyle iş birliği halinde olmaları ve alanla ilgili sahipoldukları yanlış algıyı değiştirmeleridir. Rehberlik Hizmetleri Yönetmeliği gözden geçirilerekpsikolojik danışmanların görevleri netleştirilmelidir. Yoruma açık ifadelerin kaldırılması noktasındaçalışmalar yapılmalıdır.
