Abstract
There is a great amount of evidence that in Turkish culture the right-hand side is above-valued. One evidential example is found in The Book of Dede Korkut. In this work, Bayındır Kahn s grandchild, Uruz, sits on the right side of his grandfather. However, this instance, which arises from the Vatican copy of the work and its textual repair, is contradictory to another scene in the book where the khan s son sits opposite to his father. On the other hand, in Dresden copy, the khan s son takes his seat opposite to his father in both scenes. Besides, both sons are depictured as lean-to a bow. In Turks, bow is considered to be the symbol of hegemony. This donnee indicates that the sons were heirs to the throne, and, therefore, had the right to carry a bow in diwan in Oghuzs.
