Abstract

The Old Uyghur Turkic is one period that shows the advanced religious and cultural level of the Uyghur Turks with concrete examples. Especially in the developing social life based on religion, the Uyghur Turks, who adopted various belief systems such as Buddhist and Manichaean teachings, built a philosophical language based on these teachings in order to understand and explain these teachings. This period, in which the first examples of the religious terminology in Turkic based on abstract and metaphysical aspects are given, also has the feature of being laid and developed as a result of the translation-based activities of the Buddhist Uyghur priests. In line with the need to speak to the people in a language they will understand, the consciousness of the religion of “pure believing Buddhist” priests who adopted the understanding of giving Turkic equivalents to the Buddhist terms as much as possible has evolved into Turkic language consciousness. Accordingly, the word sadu < Skr. sādhu, which is the product of the language consciousness of the Buddhist Uyghur priests, is one of the expressions brought to the religious terminology of the Turkic language by the aforementioned priests. In this study, the Word sadu in the meaning "Good!, Well done!, Perfect!, Happy!, Amen!" will be examined along with examples of the expression in the Old Uyghur Turkic texts, in terms of the religious terminology of the Turkic language, the direction of the term, the borrowing event based on the language relations and the conceptual value of religion in Hinduism and Buddhism

Halkaanlayacağı dille seslenme ihtiyacı doğrultusunda, Budist terimlere eldengeldiğince Türkçe karşılıklar verme anlayışını benimseyen “saf imanlı Budist”rahiplerin sahip oldukları din bilinci zamanla Türkçe dil bilincine evrilmiştir. Budoğrultuda, Budist Uygur rahiplerinin sahip oldukları dil bilincinin ürünü olansadu (Skr. sādhu) kelimesi, bahsi geçen rahiplerce Türk dilinin dinîterminolojisine kazandırılmış ifadelerden biridir. Bu çalışmada, “İyi!, Güzel!,Aferin!, Mükemmel!, Kutlu olsun!, Âmin!” anlamlarındaki sadu sözcüğü elealınarak ifadenin Eski Uygur Türkçesi metinlerindeki tanıklarına, Türk dilinin dinîterminolojisi özelinde terimin oluşum yönüne, dil ilişkilerine dayalı ödünçlemeolayına ve ifadenin dinî olarak Hinduizm ve Budizm’de sahip olduğu kavramsaldeğere yer verilecektir
