Education in Cizre during the period of Ottoman modernization

Abstract

In this study; both before from the Ottoman and being a important education center during the Ottoman period, after being briefly mentioned from the madrasas opened in Cizre Town there educated many personalities of science education; were discussed in detail the Town Education Assembly, primery and secondery schools, the Protestant schools and economic resources of schools of the Muslim that opened in Cizre since the 1870s be accepted as the beginning of the period of the modernization in the provinces. Preparation of the study, were used the various classifications of the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives and the State of Yearbooks, Yearbooks Diyarbakir province, the Ministry of Education Yearbooks, Diyarbakir Newspaper and various research works. As a result of the evaluation on the available resources, were opened important schools, despite all the financial problems, during the period of Ottoman modernization in the town of Cizre, which has a significant position within the province of Diyarbakır. However, when the village population and the number of children of school age were taken into consideration, was understood that the number of modern primary school is insufficient, and this number is insufficient by itself was determined by the Ministry of Education.

Özet

Bu çalışmada; gerek Osmanlı öncesinde, gerekse Osmanlı döneminde önemli bir eğitim merkezi olan ve çok sayıda ilmi şahsiyetin yetiştiği Cizre kazasında açılan medreselerden özetle bahsedildikten sonra, taşrada yenileşme döneminin başlangıcı olarak kabul edilen 1870li yıllardan itibaren Cizrede açılan Kaza Maarif Meclisi, sıbyan, ibtidai ve rüşdiye mektebleri ile Protestan mektebleri ve Müslümanlarca açılan mekteblerin ekonomik kaynakları ayrıntılı olarak anlatıldı. Çalışmanın hazırlanmasında, Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivinin çeşitli tasnifleri ile Devlet Salnamesi, Diyarbakır Vilayet Salnamesi, Maarif Salnamesi, Diyarbekir Gazetesi ve çeşitli araştırma eserlerden faydalanıldı. Eldeki kaynaklar üzerinde yapılan değerlendirmeler sonucunda, Diyarbekir vilayeti dahilinde önemli bir konuma sahip olan Cizre kazasında, bütün maddi imkânsızlıklara rağmen, Osmanlı yenileşme döneminde önemli okulların açıldığı tespit edildi. Ancak, kaza nüfusu ve okul çağına gelen çocuk sayısı dikkate alındığında, modern sıbyan ve ibtidai mektebi sayısının yetersiz olduğu ve bunun bizzat Maarif Nezaretince saptandığı anlaşıldı.
