Abstract

Background: İt was suggested that there may be a role of Borrelia burgdorferi in the etiology of morphea, lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSA) and Parry-Romberg syndrome, which are characterized by sclerosis, because of the development of sclerotic skin lesions in some patients with acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans and Borrelia lymphocytoma vvhich are the cutaneous findings of Lyme disease. Material and Method: İn this study, antibo'dies to Borrelia burgdorferi vvere investigated by serologic method in 14 cases vvith morphea, 2 cases vvith LSA and one case with Parry-Romberg syndrome, and the results vvere compared vvith the results of 5 control subjects. Results: The seropositivity was not detected in either study groups or control group. Conclusion: We could not detect any serological evidences regarding the association ofBorrelia burgdorferi and these sclerotic skin dermatoses in our cases.
