Spect findings in progressive hemifacial atrophy

Abstract

A case of progressive hemifacial atrophy, involving the right side of the face is presented. The patient had tonic clonic seizures. EEG showed slow wave paroxsisms and CT was normal. Cerebral 99m Tc- Hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (HMPAO) SPECT revealed decreased cerebral perfusion on the contralateral parietal regions that suggests an underlying neurological disorder with vascular component. SPECT findings may give important clues to explain the etiology of this unknown disorder.

Özet

Yüzün sağ tarafında atrofi ve tonik klonik epilepsisi olan bir progresif hemifasial atrofi vakası sunuldu. Hastanın çekilen EEG' sinde yavaş dalga paroksizmleri saptandı, serebral BT'si normaldi. Serebral 99m Tc- Hexamethylpropylene amin oxim ( HMPAO) SPECT ile kontralateral parietal bölgelerde azalmış serebral perfüzyon saptandı. Bu sonuç, Progresif Hemifasial Atrofi patogenezinde vasküler nedenlerin bulunduğunu desteklemektedir. SPECT çalışmalarının bu hastalığın etiyolojisini aydınlatmada faydalı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
