The sitting position in neurosurgery: A retrospective analysis of 253 cases

Abstract
The records of all patients undergoing neurosurgical procedures in the sitting position during the period of 1997 to 2003 were reviewed. The incidence of venous air embolism which was diagnosed by precordial doppler was 13.8 %. Forty percent of these patients became hipotensive and 20 % developed bradycardia. The diagnosis of venous air embolism and treatments were discussed with the relevant literature.

1997-2003 yılları arasında oturur pozisyonda beyin cerrahisi ameliyatı geçiren 253 hastanın kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelendi. Prekordiyal doppler ile tanı konan venöz hava embolisi insidansı % 13.8 idi. Venöz hava embolisi gelişen hastaların % 40'nda hipotansiyon, % 20'nde bradikardi saptandı. Hava embolisinin tanısı ve tedavisi ilgili literatürle tartışıldı.
