Abstract
Aim: Our study aimed to observe the intensive care unit (ICU) use and results of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in a tertiary hospital.Material and Method: This prospective observational epidemiologic study was performed in a third level hospital. The consecutive adult patients who admitted with acute respiratory failure (ARF) and treated with NIV and/or IMV in our ICU was admitted to our study. All patients’ data recorded was taken as age, sex, heart rate, blood pressure, etiology of ARF, underlying disease, arterial blood gases on admission and received NIV or IMV later one hour, type of mask, cause of intubation (ETI), ventilator modes, adjustment of ventilator, time of ETI and NIV, Glasgow-Coma-Scores, APACHE II, length of ICU stay and results. Student-t test was used for statistical evaluations and p
