Abstract
Postoperative cognitive disorder is an impairment in the memory and high cerebral functions that might be observed following general anesthesia. When this impairment occurs during the early phase of recovery it is called delirium. Delirium is characterized by the loss of orientation and deterioration of attention and memory and described as acute confusional state persisting for minutes to several hours after surgery. In this case report, we aimed to present a male subject with delirium during the acute phase of recovery following general anesthesia for Dupuytren’s contracture and discuss the terms, definitions and treatment modalities of postoperative cognitive disorders by reviewing the literature.
