Abstract
To evaluate the diagnostic value of the serum and bronchial washing carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) measurement in nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC), we compared the serum and bronchial washing CEA levels of 26 patients with benign pulmonary disease (BPD) and 29 with NSCLC.We found that, both serum and bronchial washing CEA levels in patients with NSCLC were significantly higher than that of the patients with BPD. The "cut-off" values , defined as 96% specificity for BPD, were set at 6.5 ng/mL for serum CEA and 80 ng/mL for bronchial washing CEA. Using these "cut-off" values, the sensitivities of serum CEA and bronchial washing in detecting NSCLC were 38% and 24%, respectively. When the measurements of serum and bronchial washing CEA were combined, the sensitivity was increased to 52%.In conclusion, the sensitivities of both serum and bronchial washing CEA measurements are not fair enough in detecting NSCLC.
Özet
Serum ve bronş lavajı karsinoembriyonik antijen (CEA) ölçümlerinin küçük hücreli dışı akciğer karsinomu (KHDAK) tanısındaki değerini saptamak amacıyla KHDAK' li 29 ve benign akciğer hastalıklı (BAH) 26 hastanın serum ve bronş lavaj örneklerinde CEA düzeylerini karşılaştırdık. KHDAK grubundakilerde hem serum hemde lavaj CEA düzeylerinin BAH grubunda olanlardan anlamlı derecede daha yüksek olduğunu saptadık (p
