Abstract

Consideration of cross resistance is important for selecting the acceptable drug for treatment of apparent or proven multidrug resistant tuberculosis. When resistance to Streptomycin is proved or highly suspected, one of the other aminoglycosides can be used. We aimed to determine the cross resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain between Streptomycin, kanamycin, amikacin. 100 culture positive sputum specimens of lung tuberculosis patients were involved in this study. We found cross resistance between Streptomycin and kanamycin (p< 0.01). There was also cross resistance between kanamycin and amikacin (p< 0.001). Cross resistance was not obsemed between Streptomycin and amikacin (p< 0.05). We conclude that strains resistant to Streptomycin are susceptible to amikacin.
