Investigation of Relationship between Relationship Satisfaction and Self-Deception in RomanticRelations of University Students: The Mediating Role of Social Vulnerability

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between romantic relationship satisfactionand self-deception of the university students and the mediating role of social vulnerability on the relationbetween romantic relationship satisfaction and self-deception. In this study, to define the relation amongromantic relationship satisfaction, self-deception and social vulnerability variables, firstly, the RelationalScreening Model is applied the variables, and then in the second face, the variables have been tested viaStructural Equation Model. In this study, university entrance exam unit is accepted as the stratified samplingaccording to Stratified Sampling Model. In this study, through using the Personal Information Form,Relationship Satisfaction Scale, Self-Deception Scale and Social Vulnerability Scale, the data has beencollected from 331 university students who are studying in the Faculty of Education pedagogical formationdepartment at Marmara University who applied for the 2017-2018 spring semester whose ages changingbetween 20-40. To research the relation between the data of the study and the concerned variables, StructuralEquation Model has been used. To test the variables, the SPSS 21.0 program and AMOS 20.0 program hasbeen applied. As a result of the study, it has been found that there are positive correlations between romanticrelationship satisfaction and self-deception but there has been found negative correlations between socialvulnerability other variables among university students. Additionally, the social vulnerability has a mediating role in this relationship. The findings have been discussed in the light of literature and completed withsuggestions in terms of psychological counseling

Özet

Bu çalışma; romantik ilişki içerisinde bireylerin ilişki doyumları ile kendini aldatma davranışlarıarasında sosyal kırılganlıklarının aracı rolünü incelemektedir. Çalışmada ele alınan romantik ilişki doyumu,kendini aldatma ve sosyal kırılganlık değişkenleri arasındaki ilişkiler ilk etapta ilişkisel tarama modeli ileincelenmiş, sonrasında ise ilgili değişkenler ve ilişkileri üzerine kurulan model Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli ile testedilmiştir. Araştırmada tabakalı örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak üniversite yerleşim puan türleri dikkatealınmış ve her bir puan türü tabaka olarak kabul edilmiştir. Çalışma örneklemini belirlenen evrenden seçilenyaşları 20-40 arasında değişen 2017-2018 öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Marmara Üniversitesin’de pedagojikformasyon öğrenimine devam eden 331 öğrenci katılımcı oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada Kişisel Bilgi Formu,İlişki Doyumu Ölçeği, Kendini Aldatma Ölçeği ve Sosyal Kırılganlık Ölçeği kullanılarak verilerkatılımcılardan toplanmıştır. Çalışma verileri ile değişkenler arası ilişkileri incelemek ve değişkenler arasıkurulan modelin test edilmesi için veriler yapısal eşitlik modeli (yol analizi) ile test edilmiştir. Elde edilenveriler SPSS 21.0 ve AMOS 20.0 programları ile analize tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırmada romantik ilişkidoyumu ve kendini aldatma değişkenleri arasında pozitif korelasyon olduğu, sosyal kırılganlık değişkeninindiğer değişkenler ile negatif doğrultuda anlamlı ilişki içerisinde bulunduğu; sosyal kırılganlığın çalışmadaaracılık rolü üstlendiği bulgulanmıştır. Bu çalışmadan elde edilen bulgular alan yazın çerçevesinde tartışılmışve psikolojik danışma açısından önerilerle tamamlanmıştır.
