THE EFFECT OF USE OF GEOGEBRA SOFTWARE IN TEACHING THE HIERARCHIC RELATIONS OF QUADRILATERALS ON THE 8TH GRADE STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT

Abstract
The study is conducted to examine the effect of teaching the hierarchic relations between quadrilaterals with GeoGebra software on the achievements of 8th grade students. A weak experimental design with pre-test post-test control group was used. The study was conducted with 30 eighth grade students, 15 of whom were in the experimental and 15 in the control group in 2017-2018 spring term. Teaching activities were applied with GeoGebra in the experimental and with physical manipulatives in control group. The measurement tool was applied as a pre-test and post-test. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference between experimental and control group in terms of students’ achievement. It can be said that the application of teaching activities with GeoGebra software or physical manipulatives increases the achievement of students at the same level.
Özet
Araştırmanın amacı, dörtgenler arası hiyerarşik ilişkilerin GeoGebra yazılımı ile öğretiminin, 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin erişi düzeylerine etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada ön-test son-test kontrol gruplu zayıf deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. 2017-2018 bahar döneminde, bir devlet okulunda eğitimlerine devam eden, 15'i deney 15'i kontrol grubu olmak üzere 30 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisi araştırmaya katılmıştır. Öğretim etkinlikleri deney grubunda GeoGebra yazılımı ile kontrol grubunda ise fiziksel manipülatifler ile hazırlanan, benzer içerikli aktiviteler ile yapılmıştır. Ölçme aracı deney öncesi ve sonrasında ön test ve son test yerine uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda deney ve kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Araştırma sonucuna göre benzer içerikli öğretim etkinliklerini GeoGebra ve fiziksel manipülatifler ile uygulanmasının öğrencilerin erişi düzeylerini benzer düzeylerde artırdığını söylemek mümkündür.
