The Reflections of Covid-19 Pandemic on Social Workers and Social Work Practices

Covid-19 Pandemisinin Sosyal Hizmet Uzmanları ve Sosyal Hizmet Uygulamalarına Yansımaları

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the reflections of the Covid-19 epidemic, which affects the whole world, on social workers and social work practices. For this reason, qualitative research methods and techniques were used. 15 social workers working in public institutions and organizations operating in the field of social services were reached with purposeful and snowball sampling technique. In-depth interviews were held with the participants remotely and face to face in accordance with the measures taken within the scope of the pandemic. The MAXQDA 20 program was used in the analysis process of the interviews. As a result of the analysis, three main themes were reached: the reflection of the pandemic on personal life, social work practices and the professional lives of social workers. It has been observed that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused negative reflections on both the individual and professional lives of social workers. In addition, social workers emphasize that the changing conditions after the pandemic directly affect different practice areas of social work and professional practices in these areas.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı dünyanın genelini etkileyen Covid-19 salgınının, sosyal hizmet uzmanları ve sosyal hizmet uygulamalarına yansımalarını keşfetmektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda nitel araştırma yöntem ve teknikleri kullanılmıştır. Sosyal hizmetler alanında faaliyet gösteren kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarında çalışan 15 sosyal hizmet uzmanına amaçlı ve kartopu örnekleme tekniğiyle ulaşılmıştır. Katılımcılar ile uzaktan ve pandemi kapsamında alınan tedbirlere uygun şekilde yüz yüze olmak üzere derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Görüşmelerin analiz sürecinde MAXQDA 20 programı kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analiz sonucunda pandeminin; kişisel yaşama, sosyal hizmet uygulamalarına ve sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının mesleki yaşamlarına yansımaları olmak üzere üç ana temaya ulaşılmıştır. Covid-19 pandemisinin sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının hem bireysel hem de mesleki yaşantısında olumsuz yansımalara neden olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca sosyal hizmet uzmanları pandemi sonrası değişen koşulların, sosyal hizmetin farklı uygulama alanlarını ve bu alanlardaki mesleki uygulamaları doğrudan etkilediğini vurgulamaktadır.
