According to local records on İzmir at the end of the 18th century

Abstract

Izmir has emergence as a commercial center of Levantine world in the 17th century and has maintained its development in the following centuries. Local archival records concerning to these periods are not available. In the second half of the 18th century, the application of the paying local expenditures on the spot which were put into effect according to certain procedures, presents indispensable knowledge for the socio-economic history of the region. The archival records which contain above mentioned information sheds light on the socio-economic and administrative history of Izmir at the end of the 18th century.

XVII. yüzyılda Levant dünyasında ticari bir merkez olarak parlayan ve gelişimini izleyen yüzyıllarda sürdüren İzmir'in bu dönemlere ait yerel arşiv kayıtları mevcut değildir. XVIII. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında yürürlüğe konulan yerel harcamaların belirli bir usule göre mahallinde ödenmesi uygulanması sonucu ortaya çıkan kayıtlar bizlere sosyo-ekonomik tarih için vazgeçilmez nitelikte bilgiler sunmaktadır. Sözü edilen bilgilerin yer aldığı arşiv kayıtları XVIII. yüzyıl sonlarında İzmir'in sosyo-ekonomik ve idari tarihine ışık tutmaktadır.
