The infection of lernea cyprinaceae (Linnaeus, 1758) in some of the aquarium fishes (Poecilidae) in Mersin district

Abstract

This study were conducted between April - August 2002 in order to find out the mortality rates of Poecilidae fishes in some of the aquarium facility in Mersin district. The parasites sampled from the skin, fin and gill tissues of fish were investigated and the results showed that the Lemaea cyprinacea (Linnaeus, 1758) was responsible for the mass mortality occurred during abovementioned period in the facility. A total of 110 fish were investigated throughout the study and 49 of the investigated fish was found to be infested with the parasite. The morphological characteristics of the parasite and the symptoms which the parasite inflicts on fish were also studied. The infested fish were succesfully controlled with Chloramin T (10 ppm /1 hour/ 3 days).

Özet

Bu araştırma Nisan - Ağustos 2002 tarihleri arasında Mersin Bölgesi'nde bir akvaryum işletmesinde Poecilidae familyasına ait balıklarda görülen ani ölümlerin nedenini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Balıkların deri, yüzgeç ve solungaç dokularından alınan parazitler laboratuvarda incelenmesi sonucunda ölümlere neden olan etmenin Lemaea cyprinacea {Linnaeus, 1758) olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada 110 adet balık incelenmiş olup, bunlardan 49 adetinin parazit ile enfeste olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca parazitin morfolojik özellikleri ve balıklarda oluşturduğu semptomlar incelenmiştir. Balıklar Kloramin T (10 ppm /1 saat / 3 gün) kullanılarak tedavi edilmiştir.
