AN ESSAY ON 'NON-ACADEMIC SOCIOLOGY'

Abstract

Science in general and sociology in particular must always take into consideration their deficiencies and mistakes since they are affected by both their own inner dynamics and the changes taking place in society. It is a pride and the basis of science to know that it may have deficiencies. It has become apparent that we need to develop a new kind of sociology that is both embraced by intellectual knowledge at university and equipped with the knowledge of the realism experienced outside the university. Adopting a new approach that does not ignore this fact is not only the problem of sociology but also of other disciplines. Seen from this perspective, this study attempts to make the sophisticated knowledge of life more meaningful through the concepts of science and scientific culture within the framework of sociology. Besides, it also aims to assess sociology's effort outside the university to produce science which is solely practiced for different intellectual interests because the prevalence of sociology has made it necessary first to expand into the areas outside university and then to feed itself through the reflections outside. It has also made apparent the need to re-discover the knowledge with scientific bureaucracy and non-academic sociology

Özet

Genelde bilim özelde sosyoloji, kendi bilimsel iç dinamikleri yanında toplumda yaşanan değişimlerden de etkilendiği için her zaman eksiği ve hatası olduğunu hesaba katmak zorundadır; eksiğinin ve hatasının olacağını bilmek bilimin övüncü ve varlık temelidir. Bu hata ve eksiği aza indirmek için hem üniversitede entelektüel bilgiyle sarmalanmış hem de dışarıda yaşanan gerçekliğin bilgisiyle donanmış bir sosyoloji yapma gerekliliği su yüzüne çıkmıştır. Bunu göz ardı etmeyen bir yaklaşım bugün sadece sosyolojinin değil diğer bazı disiplinlerin de sorunudur. Böyle yaklaştığımızda, bu çalışma, hayatın karmaşık bilgisini "bilim" ve "bilimsel kültür" kavramlarıyla sosyoloji tarihi içinde anlamlı bir çerçeveye yerleştirmeye çalışmakta, ayrıca sosyolojinin farklı entelektüel kaygılarla yapılan bilgi üretme çabasını üniversite dışında değerlendirmeyi amaç edinmektedir. Çünkü "sosyolojinin heryerdeliği" onun önce "üniversite dışına taşması"nı, sonra "dışarıdan yansımalarla" kendini beslemesini zorunlu kılmış; bilginin farklı entelektüel mekânlarda ve kurumlarda "bilimsel bürokrasi" ve "üniversite dışı sosyoloji" kimliğiyle yeniden keşfedilmesi gereğini su yüzüne çıkarmıştır
