Effects of telecommunications ınfrastructure on economic evelopment in Turkey: A geographically weighted regression approach

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the relationship between the level of economicdevelopment and telecommunication infrastructure for the year of 2000 and (level of)NUTS 3 region. For this purpose, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) whichconsiders the regional differentials is used. The results of the empirical studies showed thatinfrastructure affects the economic development both for the general and local levelpositively. It’s seen that infrastructure affected the economic development mostly theprovinces which lie from east to middle and from west to middle regions of Turkey. Theleast effect is seen at the provinces that lie from middle to North and South regions ofTurkey.
