Abstract

The purpose of this research study is to determine the attitudes of primary school teachers and fifthgrade students toward alternative assessment and evaluation methods in the assessment and evaluation dimension of educational curriculum and to discuss their attitudes in terms of various variables. The population of the present survey research was primary school teachers and fifth-grade students. The sample was formed by convenience sampling. The sample consisted of 179 primary school teachers working in 30 primary schools in the city center of Çanakkale province and 1369 fifthgrade students from 49 classes in 27 primary schools in the same city center. The data were collected with the Scale of Students' Attitudes Toward Alternative Assessment and Evaluation Methods and the Scale of Teachers' Attitudes Toward Alternative Assessment and Evaluation Methods. The scales were developed by the researchers. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the research data. The data were analyzed using a statistical software program. From the results concerning the first problem, it was evident that the primary school teachers had positive attitudes toward alternative assessment and evaluation methods. The results pertaining to the second problem revealed that the levels of the primary school teachers’ attitudes toward alternative assessment and evaluation methods did not vary by gender, professional seniority, educational background, grade they teach in, and class population. The results related to the third and fourth research problems indicated that the fifth-grade students’ attitudes toward alternative assessment and evaluation methods were positive, the levels of the fifth-grade students' attitudes varied depending on class population and gender.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı; sınıf öğretmenlerinin ve beşinci sınıf öğrencilerinin eğitim programlarının ölçme-değerlendirme boyutunda yer alan alternatif ölçme-değerlendirme yöntemlerine ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek ve çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Araştırmanın evrenini sınıf öğretmenleri ve ilköğretim 5. sınıf öğrencileri, örneklemi ise amaçlı örnekleme türlerinden kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi yöntemiyle oluşturulan Çanakkale İl merkezine bağlı 30 ilköğretim okulunda görev yapan 179 sınıf öğretmeni ve 27 ilköğretim okulunun 49 şubesinde öğrenim gören toplam 1369 beşinci sınıf öğrencisidir. Araştırmanın verileri; araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen “Öğrenci Alternatif Ölçme ve Değerlendirme Yöntemleri Tutum Ölçeği” ve “Öğretmen Alternatif Ölçme ve Değerlendirme Yöntemleri Tutum Ölçeği” ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde betimsel istatistikten faydalanılmıştır. Veriler, bilgisayar ortamında istatistik programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Çalışmanın birinci alt problemi kapsamında elde edilen sonuç; sınıf öğretmenlerinin alternatif ölçme ve değerlendirme yöntemlerine ilişkin olumlu tutumlara sahip olduklarıdır. Çalışmanın ikinci alt problemi kapsamında elde edilen sonuç; sınıf öğretmenlerinin alternatif ölçme- değerlendirme yöntemlerine yönelik tutum düzeylerinin cinsiyetlerine, eğitim durumlarına, kıdemlerine, görev yaptıkları sınıf düzeylerine ve görev yaptıkları sınıfların mevcutlarına göre değişmediği yönündedir. Çalışmanın üçüncü ve dördüncü alt problemi kapsamında elde edilen sonuçlar; beşinci sınıfta öğrenim gören öğrencilerin alternatif ölçme ve değerlendirme yöntemlerine yönelik tutum düzeylerinin üst düzeyde olduğunu, tutum düzeylerinin öğrenim gördükleri sınıf mevcuduna ve cinsiyetlerine bağlı olarak değiştiğini ortaya koymaktadır.
