METAPHYSICS AND PATAPHYSICS IN AVANT-GARDE ART

Abstract

The first half of the 20th century was a process in which traditional art was dismantled and reshaped with various manifestos, up to the building blocks of new artistic experiences with unlimited possibilities. The pataphysical thought, which was called metaphysics and beyond metaphysics at the end of the 19th century, became a point of attraction for artists of this period. In this study, the role of metaphysics and pathophysics in avant-garde art, and their reflections on their art in the context of the relationships of artists with these ways of thinking. While investigating the effects of theosophy in abstract avant-garde art movements within the scope of artists and their works, the effects of Alfred Jarry’s pataphysical thought on the understanding of Dada were tried to be clarified. The concept of reality of art and philosophy, the commonality of metaphysics and theosophy, the relationship between pataphysics and the nature of art have been the subjects the research has touched on at various points.

20. yüzyılın ilk yarısı geleneksel sanatın yeni sanat deneyimlerinin sınırsız olanaklarıyla yapıtaşlarına varıncaya dek parçalanıp çeşitli manifestolarla yeniden biçimlendirildiği bir süreç olmuştur. Fizik ötesi olan metafizik ve metafizik ötesi olarak 19. yüzyılın sonunda adı duyulan patafizik düşünce bu dönem sanatçıları için çekim noktası olmuştur. Bu çalışmada avangard sanatta metafizik ve patafiziğin rolü, sanatçıların bu düşünce biçimleriyle olan ilişkileri bağlamında sanatlarına yansımaları incelenmiştir. Soyut avangard sanat hareketlerinde teozofinin etkileri sanatçılar ve eserleri kapsamında araştırılırken, Alfred Jarry’nin patafizik düşüncesinin Dada anlayışına etkileri açıklık kazandırılmaya çalışılmıştır. Sanat ve felsefenin gerçeklik kavramı, metafizik ve teozofi ortaklığı, patafizik ve sanatın doğası arasındaki ilişki araştırmanın çeşitli duraklarda değindiği konular olmuştur.
