Modern Egyptian short story

Abstract

This article will discuss the emergence of short story as a modern literary genre, in Arabic literature in general and in Egyptian literature in particular. To that end, I will try to introduce early examples of the genre in historical and literary context: I will first mention the genesis and the essential features of short story as a modern literary genre. Se- cond I will mention the examples of narrative forms in classical Ara- bic literature, those which are similar to short story, in scope, style and length - of course. Within that context, frontiers of modern short story in Arabic literature in general and Egyptian literature in particular, and their works will be introduced in relation to the historical conditions that made the art, the taste for and the audience of it possible.

Bu çalışmada, genel olarak Modern Öykünün edebi bir tür olarak kabul edildiği şekliyle başlangıcı, gelişmesi ve öncüleri ile onların anlatım tekniklerinin kısaca incelenmesinin ardından Arap edebiyatında kısa öykü türünün arkaik biçimleri ve dönemlerinde ifade ettikleri anlam, gözden geçirilecektir. Arap edebiyatı genelinde ve Mısır özelinde modern anlatı türlerinin ortaya çıkışı ve bu durumu hazırlayan tarihsel sürecin anlatılmasını takiben modern kısa öykünün Mısırlı öncüleri ve diğer önde gelen Mısırlı kısa öykü yazarları tanıtılacaktır.
