Abstract
The first Egyptian novelist, Naguib Mahfouz, who won the Nobel Literature award in the Islamic / Arab world, is also a prominent writer with his stories. Mahfouz, whose novels and stories have been translated into Turkish and many academic studies have been conducted, is also known in our country. Many of Mahfouz's novels were scripted and staged in Egypt. Naguib Mahfouz edited his novels on the basis of social problems and tried to give his political and social messages using symbolic elements. Many of Mahfouz 's novels were scripted and staged in Egypt. In this study, four different Turkish translations of the story named “Badlat al-Asir (Captive Uniform)” in the story collection of Hams al-junun ( (همس الجنون are discussed in terms of translation strategies and translation equivalence. The story of “Badlat al-Asir ” was compared to the script of Rami el-Gabiri in 2008, under the direction of Amr Ahmed Abd'ul-Men'am and the movie Badlat al- Asir , which was released in Arabic in 2008 with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The differences between the story and the movie are stated in the study. Equivalence in translation, which means an effort to transmit the meaning of the source text in the target language at the same rate, and the use of some strategies in translation are among the indispensable elements for a successful translation. In literary text translations, the translator should not only be content with equivalence, but should be able to transmit the text of the source text in the most natural way in terms of function, style, communication and culture. For this purpose, five translations of Naguib Mahfouz were compared as ten sentences in terms of equivalence, and different places were examined in terms of formal and dynamic equivalence. Naguib Mahfouz deals with a well-known social problem in his story “ Badlat al-Asir”. In the story, the dreams of a poor teenager trying to get the girl he loves, the girl loves the driver of a rich man, the poor teenager tries to be dressed like a driver to win the love of the girl, and she died in this cause. When the captive uniform translations are examined, it is seen that explanation, adaptation and localization, addition, perspective shift (displacement) formal equivalence, dynamical equivalence and communicative translation strategies are successfully applied. Although there are differences between translations, translators have been successful in implementing these strategies.
