Refractive Changes After Strabismus Surgery

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the postoperative refractive status of patients who underwent strabismus surgery. Material and Method: 92 eyes of 73 patients operated for strabismus were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into 4 groups according to the operation they had. Group 1; Those with a single horizontal muscle recession, Group 2; Those who underwent two horizontal muscle recession and resection in one eye, Group 3; Those who underwent inferior oblique tenotomy, Group 4; Those who underwent inferior oblique tenotomy with a single horizontal muscle recession. The preoperative and postoperative spherical equivalent values of the patients at 1. week, 1, 3 and 6. months were compared. Results: When the preoperative spherical equivalent values of the patients were compared with the spherical equivalent values at the postoperative 1st week, 1st, 3rd and 6th months, a decrease was observed only in Group 2. Conclusion: Temporary refractive changes may be seen especially after strabismus surgeries requiring two or more muscle interventions.

Amaç: Şaşılık cerrahisi uygulanmış hastaların cerrahi sonrası refraktif durumunu değerlendirmek. Gereç ve Yöntem: Şaşılık nedeni ile cerrahi uygulanan 73 hastanın 92 gözü geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Hastalar geçirdikleri cerrahiye göre 4 gruba ayrıldı. Grup 1; Tek horizontal kasa geriletme yapılanlar, Grup 2; Tek gözde iki horizontal kasa geriletme ile rezeksiyon yapılanlar, Grup 3; İnferior oblik tenotomi yapılanlar, Grup 4; Tek horizontal kasa geriletme ile inferior oblik tenotomi yapılanlar. Hastaların cerrahi öncesi ve sonrası 1. hafta, 1, 3 ve 6. aydaki sferik ekivalan değerleri karşılaştırıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların cerrahi öncesi değerleri ile cerrahi sonrası 1. hafta, 1, 3 ve 6. aydaki sferik ekivalan değerleri karşılaştırıldığında yalnızca Grup 2’de sferik ekivalanda düşme olduğu görüldü. Diğer gruplarda anlamlı fark izlenmedi. Sonuç: Özellikle iki veya daha fazla kasa müdahale gerektiren şaşılık cerrahilerinden sonra geçici refraktif değişiklikler görülebilir.
