'Learning Through Teaching' as a Model in Language Teaching

Abstract

In this article, "learning through teaching" (a model which is based on the investigation of methods of learning by experiencing) has been studied. Possible inconveniencies and insufficiencies, which are thought to have been originated mainly from teachers and students, in language teaching have been figured out. For this reason, an experimental adaptation, which is expected to decrease the impact of such inconveniences, has been studied. The model, which is student-centered, can be employed as a technique as well. In this model, the roles and responsibilities of both teachers and students, and the concept of language learning have been redefined. The language learning process is not only an act of receiving knowledge but also of experiencing. The teacher is expected to have the required proficiency as well as methodological, didactical and technological background. In addition, the student is obliged to have his or her own responsibilities in the language learning process.

Bu makalede, yaparak yaşayarak öğrenme metotlarına dayalı olarak geliştirilen yabancı dil öğretiminde 'Öğreterek öğrenme' ders modeli incelenmiştir. Çalışmada önce yabancı dil öğrenimindeki yetersizlikler ele alınmış ve yetersizliklerin en önemli nedeninin öğretmen ve öğrenci kaynaklı olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu nedenle bu yetersizlikleri aza indirecek bir model denemesi üzerinde durulmuştur. 'Öğreterek öğrenme' modeli öğrenci merkezli bir modeldir. Model, bir ders modeli olarak uygulanabileceği gibi aynı zamanda ders içinde bir teknik olarak da uygulanabilir. Yabancı dil öğreniminin sadece bilgi öğrenmeye değil, öncelikli olarak yeti ve beceri geliştirmeye yönelik olması ve yaparak ve yaşayarak öğrenmeye dayalı metotlarla gerçekleştirilmesi gereklidir. Modele göre yabancı dil öğrenme anlayışı, öğretmen ve öğrenci görev ve sorumlulukları yeniden belirlenmiştir. Artık öğretmen sadece bilgiyi öğreten kişi değildir, o daha çok metot ve teknik bilen, bilgiye ulaşmanın yollarını gösteren rehber veya yönlendirici kişidir. Öğrenci ise okul içinde ve okul dışında aktif öğrenme sorumluluğuna sahip, kendi kendine öğrenme metotlarını bilen, ders alt yapısına katkıda bulunan ve ders içinde aktif görev alan kişidir.
