Use Levels of Science and Technology Museums for Education in Ankara

Abstract

The use level of the science and technology museums in Ankara (Turkey) as informal education institutions was determined with this study. Survey method was adopted in the scope of the study. 31 administrators, 50 science course teachers and 349 2nd level students from 17 primary schools located in the center of Ankara Province and selected by the researcher through random sampling participated in the study. In this framework, separate open and close-ended questionnaire forms were developed for the administrators, science teachers and 6th, 7th and 8th grade students of the primary schools concerned. Questionnaire forms prepared were sent to the randomly-selected primary schools in the center and districts of Ankara in May 2005 via post mail. It has been found out at the end of the study that majority of the students have never visited any science and technology museum in Ankara before and that the minority to have gone to such places paid these visits in the scope of school activities. In addition, it has been revealed that the common problems of science museum visitors of any age group and statute are economic problems and time issues.

Özet

Yapılan çalışma ile Ankara'da (Türkiye) bulunan bilim ve teknoloji müzelerinin informal eğitim kurumu olarak kullanılma düzeyi ortaya konmuştur. Çalışmada betimleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmaya Ankara il merkezinde bulunan ve araştırmacı tarafından tesadüfi örnekleme ile seçilen 17 ilköğretim okulundaki 31 idareci, 50 fen bilgisi öğretmeni ve 349 ilköğretim ikinci kademe öğrencisi katılmıştır. Bu çerçevede idareciler, fen bilgisi öğretmenleri ve ilköğretim 6., 7. ve 8. sınıf öğrencileri için açık ve kapalı uçlu sorulardan oluşan ayrı ayrı anket formları hazırlanmıştır. Hazırlanan anket formaları Mayıs 2005'de posta anket yolu ile Ankara il merkezi ve merkez ilçelerinden tesadüfi olarak seçilen ilköğretim okullarına gönderilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda Ankara'da bulunan bilim ve teknoloji müzelerine öğrencilerinin büyük bir kısmının daha önce hiç gitmediği, ziyaret edenlerin ise bu gezileri okullar aracılığıyla gerçekleştirdiği tespit edilmiştir. Bunun yanı sıra her yaştaki ve her statüdeki bilim müzesi ziyaretçilerinin ortak sorunlarının ekonomik problemler ve zaman problemleri olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
