The expectation of the fourth and fifth grades elementary school students from their teachers for the Turkish lesson

Abstract

Elementary school students participate in various educational and instructional activities in order to gain skills and habits stated in objectives concerning their level and age. Instructional activities are administered as well as educational activities and students are given different kinds of courses aiming at making them gain skills and knowledge. One of the most important of these courses is the Turkish Course. Instruction methods used by Classroom Teachers, their inside-class and out of class skills and many more factors affect the attitudes and expectations of students related to the Turkish lessons. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine the expectations of the fourth and fifth grade elementary school students from classroom teachers at Turkish lessons. This study was performed on 216 students in the spring semester of the academic year of 2007-2008. General scanning method was used in this research; the data has been obtained by conducting lykert-type scale questionnaires including 6 dimensions and 33 items. Measurement tool used is called "Expectations at the Turkish Lesson from Classroom Teachers". The value of the overall reliability of measurement instrument is ,81. As a result of this study, it was found that, students have high expectations from their teachers to support the active verbal participation in the class activities, and to spend more time for the reading-related activities in the Turkish lesson.

Özet

İlköğretim öğrencileri, yaş ve gelişim düzeylerine uygun beceri ve alışkanlıkları kazanabilmek için çeşitli eğitim ve öğretim faaliyetlerine katılırlar. Okulda, öğrencilere bilgi ve becerileri kazandıracak çeşitli dersler verilmektedir. Bu derslerin en önemlilerinden biri, Türkçe’dir. Sınıf öğretmenlerinin kullandıkları öğretim yöntemleri, sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı becerileri başta olmak üzere daha birçok etken, öğrencilerin Türkçe dersine yönelik tutumlarını ve beklentilerini etkilemektedir. Bu nedenle araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim 4.-5. sınıf öğrencilerinin Türkçe dersine giren sınıf öğretmenlerinden beklentilerini tespit etmektir. Çalışma, 2007–2008 öğretim yılının bahar döneminde 216 öğrenci üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Genel tarama modelinde yürütülen araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, “öğrencilerin Türkçe dersine giren sınıf öğretmenlerinden beklentileri ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Ölçek 6 boyut ve 33 maddeden oluşan likert tipi bir ölçektir. Ölçme aracının genel güvenirlik değeri. 81’dir. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda öğrencilerin, Türkçe dersine giren sınıf öğretmenlerinden ders içi etkinliklere aktif ve sözel yönden katılımlarının desteklenmesi, Türkçe dersinde okuma ile ilgili çalışmalar yaptırılmasına daha fazla zaman harcanması gerektiğine yönelik beklentilerinin yüksek seviyede olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
