Investigation of atom concept and issues at the primary and secondary school text books

İlköğretim ve ortaöğretim ders kitaplarında atom kavramı ve konularının incelenmesi

Abstract

In this study, "The Atom concept and issues” have been indicated using by some examples of the work in this area and at the science education process. The performed studies showed that there must be a lot of misconceptions on atom subject at the students learning process and the main source of these misconceptions is the text books. In this study, at the 2008-2009 academic year, Primary school 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 classes "Science and Technology" textbooks and secondary school’s 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th classes "Chemistry" and “Physics” textbooks were examined on “atom, elements, compounds and chemical bonds” concepts and topics and their distributions according to the years. Some deficiencies and misconceptions have been detected in these subjects and suggestions are in line to be corrected.

Özet

Bu çalışmada “atom kavramı ve konularının” fen eğitim-öğretimi sürecindeki önemi ve bu konuda yapılan çalışmalara bazı örnekler gösterilmiştir. Kavram yanılgılarının pek çok sebebi olmakla beraber ders kitaplarından gelebilecek olan nedenler de oldukça önemli olmaktadır. Öğrencilerin İlköğretim ve Orta öğretim yaşantıları boyunca kullandıkları başlıca kaynak olan ders kitapları bu çalışmanın çıkış noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, yeni müfredata göre düzenlenmiş; 2008-2009 eğitim–öğretim yılında İlköğretim 4., 5., 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarda okutulan “Fen ve Teknoloji” ders kitapları ile Orta öğretim 9., 10., 11. ve 12. sınıflarda okutulan “Kimya” ve “Fizik” ders kitapları incelenmiştir. Bu ders kitapları “atom, element, bileşik ve kimyasal bağlanma kavram ve konuları” nın içeriği, sınıflara göre dağılımları, bu dağılımın sistematiği ve kavramların doğruluğu açısından değerlendirilmeye alınmıştır. Bazı kavramlarda eksiklik ve yanlışlıklar tespit edilmiş ve düzeltilmesi doğrultusunda önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
