A pilot study relating the effect of parent guide material on science and technology education within the frame of constructivist approach

Veli rehber materyalinin yapılandırmacı yaklaşım içinde fen ve teknoloji öğretimine etkileri üzerine bir ön çalışma

Abstract

Primary School Science and Technology Curriculum renewed in 2004, loaded parents with a couple of new responsibilities. Purpose of this study is to inform parents about what they can do to help students within the new system using Parent Guide Material and to evaluate the efficiency of this material. Case study was employed in the study. The research was conducted with 12 volunteer parents who have primary school children in a central school of Trabzon. Semi-structured interviews were used as data collection tools in the study. Considering the results of the research, it was concluded that parents do not have sufficient information about constructivist approach, however; prepared Parent Guide Material provided the necessary information to parents about their duties in terms of constructivist approach. In addition, it was another conclusion that many parents who support the idea that old system was much better changed their ideas after Parent Guide Material.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, 2004 yılında yenilenen İlköğretim Fen ve Teknoloji Öğretim Programı velilere birtakım yeni sorumluluklar yüklediğinde, Veli Rehber Materyali kullanılarak yapılandırmacı sistemde öğrencilere nasıl yardımcı olacakları konusunda bilgilendirme ve bu materyalin etkililiğini değerlendirmektir. Özel durum yönteminde yararlanılan araştırma, Trabzon il merkezinde bir ilköğretim okulunda 12 gönüllü velinin katılımı ile gerçekleştirilmiş ve veri toplama aracı olarak da yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak; velilerin yapılandırmacı yaklaşım hakkında yeterli bilgiye sahip olmadıkları ancak, hazırlanan Veli Rehber Materyalinin veliye düşen görevin ne olduğunun anlaşılmasını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Bunun yanında eski sistemin daha iyi olduğunu savunan birçok katılımcının Veli Rehber Materyalinin uygulanmasından sonra bu düşüncelerinin değiştiğinin sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
