Foreign national University students level of academic success, problems and suggestions

Üniversitelerde yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin akademik başarı düzeyleri, yaşadıkları sorunlar ve çözüm önerileri

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the academic success and prob- lems of foreign national students in Inonu University. Descriptive method among the general identification models was used in the study. Qualitative rese- arch method was used to gather the data for the study, and among the qualita- tive research designs phenomenological research design was utilized. The con- venience sampling was used in the determination of the work group of the study. As a data collection tool; the student transcripts, the documents about students registry types, years, and their nationalities provided from the stu- dents affairs were used. For the analyses of the problems of the foreign national students qualitative data analysis; descriptive analysis approach and content analysis were used together. Academic success of the foreign national students was observed to be very low. Students leading problems were identified as financial; school tuitions, food cards and food, transportation, language and accommodation.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, İnönü Üniversitesindeki yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin akademik başarı durumlarını ve yaşadıkları sorunları belirle- mektir. Araştırmada genel tarama modeline dayalı betimsel yöntem kullanıl- mıştır. Araştırma verileri nitel araştırma yöntemiyle elde edilmiş olup, nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum deseniyle yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada çalış- ma grubu belirlenirken, amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden kolay ulaşılabilir durum örneklemesi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak ise doku- man incelemesi (öğrenci işlerinden alınan öğrencilerin notlarını gösteren çizelgeler, öğrencilerin kayıtlanma tür, yıl ve ülkelerinin olduğu listeler) ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Yabancı uyruklu öğrenci- lerin sorunlarına ilişkin görüşlerinin analizinde nitel veri analiz tekniklerin- den betimsel analiz yaklaşımı ve içerik analizi birlikte kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada genel olarak yabancı uyruklu öğrencilerin akademik başarısının çok düşük olduğu saptanmıştır. Öğrencilerin önde gelen sorunlarının daha çok ekonomik olup okul harçları, yemek kartı ve yemek, ulaşım, dil ve barın- ma gibi konularda yoğunlaştığı belirlenmiştir.
