TWO SAMPLE LESSONS FOR ACTIVE LEARNING AND STUDENT-CENTERED APPROACH IN GEOGR PHY TEACHING FROM HISTORY

Abstract

In this study two different lesson plans as samples of student centered- approach and active learning by meaning that students have an ability to deve- lop their own behaviours by analysing, synthesizing and evaluating the know- ledge during learning process have been analyzed. The first lesson plan in this study is the plan of Lessons on The Censusprepared by İhsan Sungu before the first census of Turkish Republic in 1927 in order to apply in primary schools, aiming to teach why and how a census would be conducted in the country has been investigated in terms of active learning and student centered teaching. These lessons were planned to be applied one week before the census in Life Skills, Turkish and Maths for 2rd and 3rd grades and in Civics, Language and Maths for 4th and 5th grades. The second lesson plan is What are the needs of all people? which was prepared by Faik Reşit Unan as an example for Social Studies lesson in primary schools.
