Abstract

Abstract The goal of this study is to assess a school book İktitâf which Mehmet Atâ originated and defined as a renaissance magazine anthology from the point of the mentality of Turkish language and literature education. For this purpose, it was discovered in this study how the selection of texts was made in 1902 edition of İktifâf and how the Turkish literature was organized accord- ingly. Aside from the other Turkish language and literature course books of his era, with İktitâf both reading and writing education was given. Also Mehmet Atâ added some parts to İktitâf where he gave the grammar rules of said words. Thus he proved the necessity that Turkish education should be free from Arabic and Farsi. The analyze of documents was used in the study as a method. That the study was done for the work stipulated the use of this method. In this regard, starting from 1902 edition of İktifâf , it was reached to the data on how Turkish language and literature was administered the era of Abdülhamîd II
