Abstract
Arabic society having started to inherit the classical works of the splendid neigbouring cultures from very beginning of the Abbasid period, it is not surprising to see within the literary Arabic books a great deal of records relating to the various aspects of the case. Surely, it is due to these records that many modern studies in the field had grown up and many were compiled with. Naturally, the analysis on the data qouted by various scholars had done much contribution to the growing of the related knowledge. Yet, I methodically, think the studies focusing on the ground of the whole data presented only by a certain scholar deserve further attention, which is to be regarded the true key for the correct understanding of the historical process. It was that idea what directed me to do a research on al-Ma'sûdî's works. First of all, I tried to see in al-Mas'ûdî's works namely Murûdj al-zahab, al-Tanbîh wa'l-ishrâf and Akhbâr al-zamân all what has a sense to the translation activity. And that was the scheme of the draft itself. The data was seen to be convenient for an evaluation of cultural activity, science and translation, religious and cultural groups of people, behaivour of people towards the current cultural movements and the ideological and theoretical background of the translations.
