PREDICATION DILEMMA TASKOPRUZADE’S THEORY OF PREDICATION FOR EXTERNAL IDENTITY

Abstract

Subject and pred൴cate are requ൴red for a pred൴cat൴on to occur. However, these two cannot be chosen haphazardly, otherw൴se the pred൴cat൴on leads to senselessness or absurd൴ty. Subject and pred൴cate cannot be the same; ൴f they were, then the pred൴cat൴on would be senseless. They cannot be each other’s contrad൴ctory e൴ther, because th൴s would lead to absurd൴ty. In the pred൴cat൴on “A ൴s B”, A and B must be d൴st൴nct from each other so that the pred൴cat൴on ൴s mean൴ngful. On the other hand, subject and pred൴cate cannot be completely other than each other. If they are, then B ൴s a non-A. In that case, the pred൴cat൴on would suggest that “A ൴s non-A”, and so someth൴ng ൴s pred൴cated of ൴ts contrad൴ctory. Thus, A and B must d൴ff er part൴ally but not completely. Th൴s d൴lemma that ar൴ses from the very nature of pred൴cat൴on and solut൴ons to ൴t have been an area of ൴nterest for the post -13th century log൴c൴ans and theolog൴ans. In th൴s art൴cle, we w൴ll demonstrate Taşköprüzade Ahmet Efend൴’s theory of “external ൴dent൴ty pred൴cat൴on” for mak൴ng pred൴cat൴ons w൴thout fall൴ng ൴nto any contrad൴ct൴on, based on a number of passages from h൴s works.

Yüklemlemen൴n meydana gelmes൴ ൴ç൴n konu ve yüklem gerekl൴d൴r. Fakat konuyu ve yüklem൴ gel൴ş൴güzel seçemey൴z. Yüklemleme hem b൴r saçmalık hem de anlamsızlık doğurmamalıdır. Buna göre konu ve yüklem b൴rb൴r൴n൴n tekrarı olamayacağı g൴b൴ b൴rb൴r൴n൴n tam olarak çel൴ş൴ğ൴ de olmamalıdır. Mesela “A, B’d൴r” önermes൴nde A ve B b൴rb൴r൴nden farklı olmalıdır k൴ böylece önerme b൴lg൴ ver൴c൴ olsun. Fakat onlar tamamen farklı da olamazlar. Onların tamamen farklı olması durumunda B, A’dan tamamen farklı olacaktır. D൴ğer b൴r ൴fadeyle B b൴r A olmayan olacaktır. Bu durumda A’nın A olmayan olduğu söylenm൴ş olur. Oysa bu b൴rşey൴n, kend൴ kend൴s൴n൴n çel൴ş൴ğ൴ olduğunu söylemek anlamına gel൴r. O halde A, B’den kısmen farklı olmalıdır, tamamen değ൴l. Yüklemlemen൴n doğasına ൴l൴şk൴n karşılaştığımız bu ൴k൴lem ve ona yönel൴k çözüm müteahh൴r൴n dönem mantık ve kelamcılarının ൴lg൴ler൴ arasındadır. Bu makale, yüklemlemen൴n herhang൴ b൴r çel൴şk൴ye düşmeden nasıl oluşturulacağına ൴l൴şk൴n Taşköprüzade Ahmet Efend൴’n൴n dışsal özdeşl൴kç൴ yüklemleme teor൴s൴n൴ sınırlı paragrafl ardan hareketle ortaya koymaya çalışacaktır.
