EPISTEMIC ANALYSIS OF NATIONALISM IN THE CONTEXT OFNEBİ MEHDİYEV’S BİR BİLME TEORİSİ

Abstract

When the possibility of knowledge is in question in epistemology, answers are sought to questions such as what is the source of knowledge and its accuracy. The tradition starting from Plato has suggested to us the condition of truth, belief and justification for the condition of knowledge, but with the Gettier Problem, new approaches and theories have been developed that the condition of justification is not sufficient for certain knowledge. However, in this study, the epistemic analysis of nationalism was made in the context of a Bir Bilme Teorisi, by narrowing the debates on epistemology, which is one of the main branches of philosophy. This article, first of all, focuses on the question of “Why is history necessary for nationalism?” and applies an epistemic method to answer this question. In this direction, the theoretical background of our study is shaped by the book of Nebi Mehdiyev named Bir Bilme Teorisi. As we have shown in our study, in our opinion, a philosophical assessment of the nature of nationalism can be completed by explaining why history/conception is necessary for nationalism. In addition, while discussing the link between history and nationalism, it was also discussed why a nationalist discourse cannot be built on philosophical/precise knowledge. An epistemic evaluation has also been made that history is necessary for nationalism. In summary, it can be said that the main purpose of the study is to obtain information about nationalism by making use of the supervisory method of philosophy.

Epistemolojide bilginin imkânı söz konusu olduğunda, bilginin kaynağının ve onun doğruluğunun ne olduğu gibi sorulara cevap aranmaktadır. Platon’dan başlayan gelenek bize bilginin şartı için doğruluk, inanç ve gerekçelendirme koşulunu öne sürmüş ancak Gettier Problemi ile birlikte, gerekçelendirme koşulunun kesin bilgi için yeterli olmadığı yönünde yeni yaklaşımlar ve teoriler geliştirilmiştir. Ancak bu çalışmada felsefenin ana kollarından birisi olan epistemoloji tartışmaları daraltılarak milliyetçiliğin epistemik tahlili Bir Bilme Teorisi bağlamında yapılmıştır. Makalemiz, öncelikle “Tarih, neden milliyetçilik için gereklidir?” sorusu üzerinde durmakta ve bu sorunun cevaplanması için epistemik bir yönteme başvurmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmamızın teorik altyapısı, Nebi Mehdiyev’in Bir Bilme Teorisi isimli kitabından hareketle şekillenmektedir. Çalışmamız içerisinde gösterdiğimiz gibi, kanaatimizce milliyetçiliğin doğasına ilişkin felsefi bir değerlendirme, tarihin/kanının neden milliyetçilik için gerekli olduğunun açıklanmasıyla tamamlanabilir. Ayrıca tarih ve milliyetçilik arasındaki bağ ele alınırken, neden felsefi/kesin bilgi üzerine milliyetçi söylemin inşa edilemeyeceği de tartışılmış ve son tahlilde makalede; milliyetçilik için tarihin gerekli olduğuna yönelik epistemik bir değerlendirme de yapılmıştır. Hülasa çalışmanın temel amacının felsefenin denetleyici yönteminden istifade ederek milliyetçiliğe ilişkin bilgi edinmek olduğu söylenebilir.
