Abstract

Percutaneous transhepatic sphincterotomy (PTS) was employed in two patients with common bile duct (CBD) stones.Previous endoscopic procedure attempts had failed for anatomical reasons ( Bilroth II gastric resection). Complete success was obtained in two patients. Furthermore no major complications occured during PTS treatment. The authors suggest that PTS be employed electively in patients with diseases of the biliary tree in whom the endoscopic approach fails. In this article, two cases and a review of the literature are presented-
