Abstract

Ideally, outpatient treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoidal disease should be cheap, rapid, painles, effective and acceptable for the patient. Elastic band ligation (EBL) and injection sclerotherapy (IS) that were considered as the most appropriate methods for the conditions of our country, were compared in a randomised prospective study in patients who attended the General Surgical Clinics of Haydarpaşa Teaching Hospital between 01/01/1994-01/01/1996. Among 128 patients with grade I, grade II hemorrhoids and grade III hemorrhoids who refused surgery, the final evaluation included 88 patients (50 EBL and 38 IS)- in whom the follow-up was completed. Mean follow-up was 19 months (6-30); the success rates of EBL and IS were 88% and 63%, respectively (p
