Abstract
Objective: In this study, the records of 17 071 donors applying to Başkent University Konya Hospital Blood Center between June 2003 and June 2009 were evaluated retrospectively to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. Methods: The blood samples were tested for HBsAg and anti- HCV by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA). Results: HBsAg and anti-HCV were positive in 262 (1.53%) and 84 (0.5%) donors, respectively. There was no significant difference in terms of age and gender. Conclusions: It was observed that, while there was a decrease in the seropositivity of HBV, the seropositivity of anti-HCV was similar to the results of other studies in our country.
