Problematic Internet Use and Marital Adjustment in Married Individuals

Abstract
Purpose: The main purpose of this research is to analyze the problematic Internet use and marital adjustment in marriedindividuals. For this purpose, 198 (55.8%) female and 157 (44.2%) male volunteers participated in the study.Design/Methodology/Approach: Research data was obtained by using Personal Information Form, Problematic Internet UseScale and Marital Adjustment Scale. Data were analyzed by non-parametric methods Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis Htests, in addition, Chi-square independence test was used to evaluate demographic variables.Findings: As a result of the analysis, positive between marital adjustment and problematic Internet use and education level; anegative relationship was found with the marriage duration. The total scores and subscales of marriage adjustment andproblematic Internet use scales have statistically significant relationships with each other.Highlights: Based on this study, couples' high problem-solving skills, satisfaction with the time spent together, and sense oftrust increase marital adjustment and significantly reduce problematic internet use. It can be said that couples' inability tohave fun with each other in marriage, lack of common interests and not being able to spare time for each other, causesincompatibility in marriage, as well as the development of problematic internet use behavior in couples, especially for thepurpose of providing social benefits.
Özet
Bu araştırma ile evli bireylerde problemli internet kullanımı ve evlilik uyumunun incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmaya 198’i (%55.8) kadın, 157’si (%44.2) erkek toplam 355 evli birey katılmıştır. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Problemli İnternet Kullanımı Ölçeği ve Evlilik Uyum Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Veri analizleri nonparametrik yöntemlerden Mann-Whitney U ve Kruskall-Wallis H testi ile gerçekleştirilmiş, demografik değişkenlerin ilişki değerlendirmelerinde ise Ki-kare bağımsızlık testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Yapılan analizler sonucu evlilik uyumu ve problemli internet kullanımı ile eğitim düzeyi arasında pozitif; evlilik süresi ile ise negatif yönde anlamlı ilişki bulunmuştur.Evlilik uyumu ile problemli internet kullanımı arasında ise anlamlı ve ters yönde bir ilişki bulunduğu söylenebilir.
