Abstract

Background: In this study we aimed to evaluate the effect of the local anesthesia applied to the wound after varicocelec- tomy. Methods: Eighty patients who were applied varicocelectomy in between January 2011 and December 2012 included in the study. Patients with neurological diseases, diabetes mellitus and urinary retention due to anesthesia were excluded from the study. Local anesthesia applied to first group that consist of 40 patients postoperatively and not applied to second group that consist of 40 patients. Patient pain conditions were exam- ined postoperatively at 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 24 hours with visual pain scale. Results: At time intervals of 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours, the VAS score and postoperative analgesic requirement of the group who had applied wound local anesthesia were lower than the con- trol group (p
