Spindle cell epitheliomas of the vagina (bening mixed tumor): A case report

Abstract

Spindle cell epitheliomas (Benign mixed tumor) of the vagina is a rera tumor. Microscopically and immunohistochemically, this tumor is dissimilar to the usual mixed tumor of salivary gland, skin or vulva, and lacks myoepithelial differentiation. The histogenesis of this tumur is controversial. However the immunohistochemical findings are strongly in favor of mullerian rather than urogenital sinus orgin. Spindle cell epitheliomas should be differentiated from endometrial stromal neoplasms ad malignant mixed tumor. Complete excision is considered appropriate treatment for this benign neoplasm. In this case report,a 38 year old female patients who complains with vaginal discharge is evaluated with vaginal discharge is evaluated with its typical histomorphologic and immunohistochemical features. Our cases did not show squamous metaplasia countrary to most of the reported cases. This unusual case is discussed by reviewing literature.

Özet

Vajinanın iğsi hücreli epitelyoması(benign mikst tümör) nadir bir tümördür. Mikroskopik ve immunohistokimyasal olarak, tükrük bezi,deri ve vulvadaki klasik mikst tümöre benzemez ve myeopitelyal diferansiyasyon yoktur. Bu tümörün histogenezi tartışılmalıdır. Bununla birlikte immunohistokimyasal bulgular ürogenital sinüs orjininden çok müllerian orjini desteklemektedir.İğsi hücreli epitelyomalar endometrial stromal neoplazmalar ve malign mikst tümörden ayırtedilmelidir. Komplet eksizyon bu benign tümörün tedavisinde yeterlidir. Bu olgu sunumunda,vajinal akıntı şikayeti olan 38 yaşındaki kadın hastada, bu tümörün tipik histomorfolojik ve immunohistokimyasal özellikleri değerlendirilmiştir. Olgumuz bildirilen çoğu olgunun aksine skuamöz diferansiyasyon göstermiyordu. Nadir görülen bu tümör literatür eşliğinde tartışılmıştır.
